This time, I watched Nookrium's Tutorial on Youtube to try and get an idea on how to play. Why am I trying this game again? Well I don't like giving up so easily. And then I had to assign jobs, and thats where the tutorial just threw repeated keys and confusing instructions at me. I watched the magnificent creation of my new world, I selected a place to build with wood and water, calm surroundings, just like it said! (Are you proud of me yet Mum and Dad? I can follow a tutorial!). Score.īooted up the game for the second time, created a new world with the recommended NOOB settings, Low Savegery and Small World. I looked up a tutorial (oooohhhhh) and found the wiki with a beginner guide. Ok, Round one goes to DF, but Imma sneak in for the win. I was pressing keys from the menu, there was no escape, I flailed helplessly in my chair, lasting about 2 minutes before promptly quitting the world (There is no real tutorial in-game, and I often don't use tutorials!) I believe I ended up inside a fortress of some kind? and there were little ASCII symbols all over the place. Maybe? I just began the expedition, I had no clue what I was doing or needed to do. Watching the world be created and change as ages past was pretty amazing, probably the best part in my opinion. The world settings I left as they were, Medium for the most part. My first playthrough! Downloaded the current version of the game (0.47.04 (February 29, 2020)) and opened it up for the first time. I am currently running Windows 10 on my chunky gaming pc. I thought the concept was pretty interesting organise a group of dwarves to build a fortress, explore, build settlements, ect.īefore I get into the playthrough I experienced, let me explain my play space. I have heard about the game and the stigma behind how 'bad' it is. So I have never played Dwarf Fortress before, or really even looked at it.
